A few nights ago, I attended an event for Mandala House, an organization that gives yoga-based therapy to victims of sexual abuse worldwide.
It was there where I met Louisa Shafia, who was manning a table and handing out delicious homemade peanut butter and chocolate nut bars.
Louisa is the author of the lovely Lucid Food: Cooking for an Eco-Conscious Life.
I first came across Lucid Food at Greenlight Bookstore in Ft. Greene. It was set face up on one of their tables, and featured on its cover a beguiling photo of a few deep pink stalks of rhubarb. It was the rhubarb that caught my eye, I can’t ever look at rhubarb and not think of a gooey and sweet pie.
We talked Alice Waters and the soothing nature of Cathy Erway’s The Art of Eating In.
Make lucid food the next cookbook you buy. I hear her recipe for Shepard’s Pie is divine. She also blogs regularly here.
